Meet Senior Energy Manager, Asad Hussain

The Energize Bridgewater team was excited to welcome Asad Hussain to our team last month as the Senior Energy Manager.

Asad oversees the development of the Energy Management Information System (EMIS). He uses data-driven decision-making to foster a sustainable, greener future for our community. Asad works collaboratively under the Energize Bridgewater project, striving to make deep energy retrofits a reality and ensuring existing infrastructure becomes more eco-friendly. 

Q & A with Asad

1. Why did you want to join the Energize Bridgewater team?

I was drawn to the Energize Bridgewater team because of its commitment to advancing energy efficiency and promoting sustainability. I was seeking the opportunity to work on innovative solutions. I’m driven to enhance energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions for the community. Energize Bridgewater aligns with my passion to help in this energy transition and make a positive impact on the environment. I also appreciate the collaborative spirit of the team and the chance to lead initiatives that have a meaningful and lasting impact on Bridgewater.

2. What are you most excited to accomplish in your work with Energize Bridgewater?

My primary goal with Energize Bridgewater is to create a community-wide Energy Management Information System and promote deep energy retrofits, making them affordable and accessible. I’m excited about the prospect of leading the development of innovative engineering solutions that will enhance energy efficiency in the community. I really believe in the role of energy efficiency as an immediate response from governments to deliver energy savings. Energy efficiency is the key feature that can aid progress in the green transition to outpace the rising energy demand and prices. All levels of government play a crucial role in stimulating greater uptake of energy efficiency. The opportunity to contribute to a sustainable and energy-efficient future for Bridgewater is a source of great excitement.

3. What was your background before joining the team?

I have a diverse educational and professional background. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Electronics, a master’s degree in electrical Controls, and a PhD in Architecture and Civil Engineering. My previous work experience includes four years in a vertically integrated electricity company and eight years dedicated to energy efficiency, energy transition, and sustainable energy solutions. I also served on the UBCO-FortisBC Smart Energy Chair, where we assessed technological solutions and policies for energy conservation, climate change mitigation, demand-side management, development of net-zero communities, and recommendations for long-term smart energy solutions.

4. What do you like about living and working in Bridgewater?

Living and working in Bridgewater offers a unique blend of natural beauty, a welcoming community, and the opportunity to make a significant impact in the field of energy management and sustainability. The town's commitment to renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives aligns with my professional goals, and the picturesque surroundings make for a great living environment. Bridgewater's forward-thinking approach to sustainability and energy solutions is truly inspiring.

5. What are some of your hobbies or passions outside of work?

Outside of work, I have a passion for continuous learning and research. I enjoy staying updated with the latest developments in the energy sector and exploring innovative technologies. I am still collaborating with my colleagues in UBCO on topics of energy transition and development of net-zero communities. Additionally, I find relaxation in outdoor activities such as hiking, and nature photography, which perfectly complement my interest in environmental sustainability. I am a Level 7 Google Local Guide I love to use the platform to help millions of people worldwide by sharing local knowledge/experiences. Lastly, engaging with the community and volunteering for environmental and educational causes is another way I like to spend my time.
